quote synopsys:

Did a little test the other day…

Talon SS with 12″ 0.177 cal.

Tank pressure starting at 3000 psi.

20 shots with 0.68 gram Kodiaks

Tank pressure 2450 psi.

Top hat is out about 0.088″.

Power wheel at 6 (main screw) 10 (on turn knob).

Will post more when I shoot more, no chrony yet so no real numbers for velocity but my number of shots is greater after adjusting the tophat from 0.111″ to 0.088″…

So I extended this out to 50 shots and had a finished tank pressure of 2000 psi, which is about 500 psi higher then when the POI starts to shift…

I would imagine a final shot count between 60-70 shots per fill with a Kodiak 0.68gram pellet weight. Not bad considering my tophat is still a bit proud…

Got to agree on the barrel.

My goal was lots of shots at a reasonable velocity in .177. I had my SS with a 12 inch barrel and the best I could do was a very dismal 40 or so shots with consistency out the crapper.

I switched to an 18 inch barrel and my shot count is now well over 70 shots at the 15fpe range. VERY good consistency. Our guns just require a bit of tweaking to get the full potential.

Yep,

The longer the barrel the more efficient. I get many more shots just from switching from a 12″ to 16″. A 24″ would even be better shot count.

I see that your Rapid has a 24 inch barrel.

A TalonSS adjusted for the same power with a 24 inch barrel would get MANY more shots than it does with a 12 inch barrel.

Take care,
Lorrin

30 or so shots for a stock SS sounds about right

you can do a bit to get a bell curve….

up the preload to 10…and turn the tophat in, mine is about .05-.04″ and it shooting alot of shots on a fill

Get a chrony to get a base line shot string. Then read up on adjusting the tophat. Thing is with a rapid you get a bell shaped curve and with a talon valve its full power from shot 1 or 2 then down hill. Things can be done to adjust this, but its al fine tuning. I plan on working on this topic this winter to see what it takes to get a bell shaped curve and still get good velocities.
