Q:

Condor Mods & Operation?

New CondorSS owner interested in quiet, accurate, reliable shots. Two mods that Tony recommended are the Condor Hammer with Slap Mod End and the Quick Change Top Hat with Restrictor Inserts. But I’m not particularly mechanically minded and definitely don’t want to risk gun damage so as I read various posts about things like “tank dumps”, “hammer cocking issues” and other post mod problems I’m wondering…

Are mods like these a good idea for the average shooter?
Or more potential trouble than benefit, especially given cost?

Also would be interested in learning more about the design and operation of the Condor which might help answer, or at least better understand, mods potential/value questions.
Can someone please point me to, or explain, functional details of AirForce components such as;

  • 1 – Hammer
    2 – Power Wheel
    3 – Top Hap

And how all these parts play into accuracy, noise and use of air.

Thanks,
Bob

I owned a Condor which was my first PCP. The gun is a Monster. What a great gun what power a Power House. That purchase brought me to TAG where soon I became corrupted from feasting on the fruit of knowledge. I started off slowly modifying my gun. I was a tad un-trusting about all the modifications and all the claims made by folks. When I called Tony at TT I had a ton of questions even after all the research. Tony made suggestions of what I needed to quiet this beast and of course I thought that he just wanted to sell me a lot of crap which of course he does he is in business to sell stuff. Little did I know this guy helped revolutionize the AF Airgun market and the drive into PCP’s. With other industrious sorts that hang around TAG they made AirForce Airguns back yard friendly which is not an easy thing to do at all. In hind sight I look back and realize I knew little about PCPs and Little about what it took to tame these power houses. Eventually I bought everything Tony suggested and he proved me wrong if you want a very quiet gun with that kind of power you will need these awesome mods. After making my gun quiet I then worked on making it more comfortable to shoot. Mr. Woke and his Woke products gave me the Woke Butt. What a great mod made my shooting and shouldering of this gun a pleasure. I ended up buying much of what was offered and it was better then what I expected. The TT moderator as far as I know has no match. The TT one piece Top Hat is a thing of sheer awesomeness like a regulators. The TT Hammer Slap Modification another ingenious device made at the TT shop. Made in America. FREE MARKET INGENUITY. I am a skeptical prick and I am sure Mr. Tunes can tell you this. However there is no one who will help to make your AirForce Airgun experience better then these guys. The quality and Function are unmatched. I only come to TAG to have fun, to learn how to fix my guns, to learn about all the new products, to speak with others so I make the best choices, to make my shooting better and help other folks make sound decisions on their purchases and fixes as well. If you own AF airguns then Talon Products are unmatched. It took me a while to figure this out buying stuff over seas that didn’t work or didn’t work as well as TT products worked. I had a slow long learning curve. That’s why I come on and leave my thoughts so folks don’t have to go through what I did. You get what you pay for and that was my experience at TT it does exactly what the guy who made it say’s it does.

Oak it’s always nice to see someone take time to share a good word about another person or business. We often only take extra time away from the things we like to do, to complain about something that displeases us. For a person to do the opposite has become somewhat rare these days. I think you’re a real stand up guy Oak.

You just might make my “Homage  List” for that… but, we’ll see… ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜†

Thanks for the feedback.

Can you provide more info on the “Woke” stock?

Funny, I just got to meet Eddie Krammer yesterday at the NAMM Show and listened to him talk all about Jimi… :7:

No, actually, when I was questing to make the US National Shooting Team, it’s something the guys I trained with & I would say to each other when saw one another shoot a string of 10s or when were trying to encourage each other to dig in hard with training when we saw them struggling.

I’ll bet we both were grinning like jackasses with mouths full of stickers yesterday! I would love to hear just some of the stories Mr. Krammer had to tell. You know besides everything that must have happened when the artists were conscious that he was still in the booth, you know there had to be breaks when they were telling there stories and forgot he was still there! At least in my mind it would happen.

I’m happy for you dougroundup, what a legend!

By the way, I’m curious how does a guy be obviously good with both water and electricity, as you are? You’re like a fireman, fire and water don’t mix but they work with but routinely…lol

Welcome aboard and best of luck on this journey. I think you have come along at a great time. As the legion is growing and has become reachable by most of those that are dedicated and willing to go the distance.

Thank you much! It appears that I’m in luck with The “Godfather” and thank God! If I hadn’t had this luck I think it would have taken me a long time to take the plunge fully. Once I get my “Monster” I’ll post a pic of it.

You all ought to see this $h1t eating grin on my face right now, I’m sure I look like the Joker…lol

Welcome aboard and best of luck on this journey. I think you have come along at a great time. As the legion is growing and has become reachable by most of those that are dedicated and willing to go the distance.

Hello TAG, my name is Dal and this is my first post. First let me introduce myself. I’m 46 as of midnight Computer Consultant, from Texas, have a wife and 4 kids (3 elementary and 1 college), Veteran (82nd Abrn. Rigger), former 10M Air Rifle competitor (2009 Oklahoma State Champion, 2008 & 2009 Silver in Zone 8 and 2008 & 2009 Gold in Southwest Regional). I currently only own Anschutz 10M Target Rifle and a Gamo 1000 springer.
Until now I’ve looked and researched several PCP Rifles and after watching YouTube channels like Ted’s Holdover and Air Arms Hunting SA, I had decide on buying an FX Indy. But, I never took the plunge and kept looking for something I might like more. Here enters my (unbeknownst to him) mentor, Cedric “ToFazFoU” Sophus and the Bad Ass TD .257, Oh my God! I found a video of him taking shots out past 400 yards and it was over after that. I spent hours watching every video of the two of them working together and it’s like poetry in motion. The sure power and performance of that beautiful machine, I have not seen that matched on the internet by any other platform (over 200 fpe in a .257 :suprisedn:).
With that being said, I think that is what makes this platform so special, the ability customize past the potential of other platforms. The wisest thing I think to be noted is dougroundup’s advice, know the application and how you intend on using it as well as what you might want in a rifle. Per your post it appears that power is of a concern and that money may be budgeted if you could see the return. To that I would say 100% listen to dyotat100 as he is the one who built the monster that I dream about, sure POWER! So with power adjust-ability and air flow restriction inserts (if possible with Doug’s power mods) it appears the money will be well worth it, as you could have the best of both worlds. You also mentioned quietness, I think I would do better to just re-post this video of my Godfather, Doug and little big brother, Cedric (lol….they don’t even know me).

Listen to how quiet Doug’s (dyotat100) gun is at 2:35

This is exactly why I’ve decided to stop spectating and to start participating in HPA Air Guns. My wife just told me last night that I could order a “Dyotat100 Special” for my birthday, which is now (Isn’t she a Great wife). All I need now is to get an OK from Doug!

quote :

“Godfather will you build me a gun? Please, pretty please!!!”

…lol. I left you an email at AOL and Cedric one at Hotmail, please let me know.

Well TAG wish me luck and I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

Homage time to TAG members who have impressed me:

95 grams is for pea shooters :biggrinn:

My .257 and .308 have 150 gram hammers with 13 lb hammer springs. Stock spring is around 4.7 lbs.

I have at least 10,000 shots thru my .257. The only thing I have changed is the seal on my valve. I’m only running .025″ over lap on the hole. Acetal doesn’t like that little and settles over time. I’m using Peek now and run .020″ with no problems.

I have torn mine apart alot of times since adding the heavy hammer with no issues. I also have the tt qc tophat that i changed at the same time. It may beat a stock top hat apart, mine split under normal wear and tear. I have read about a few people bending the stop of the tophat from using 130 gr hammers with the power springs and drilling out the top hat to much and it crushes it.

The benefits i have noticed are the ability to open the valve up to 3400 psi with the power wheel on 0/0. It does quiet the mechanical noise of the firing cycle.

I think you will be fine for a long time running the 95 gr hammer.
