Q:

Anyone try out the .22 Promethius 30 gr. pellets yet?

I saw them on AOA and was curious if anyone used them yet as they seem very interesting considering they are boat tailed. I was curious as to how the air would get behind them efficiently, and if so, would the fact that they are a boat tail enable them to stabilize above the speed of sound if fired from a rifle capable of such power????

Actualy i dont think there is any probs sealing in the bore as the velocity is quite high, i think i got around 1050 FPS with those pile drivers, they are pretty tight in the bore. They hit pretty hard being a solid.

In fact i have recovered some shot ones that havent deformed at all and could be re fired again !

Thanks muzza, I was kind of skeptical of that boat tail design. I wondered how the air would get behind it efficiently and how it could possibly seat into the rifling, etc. Thanks.

Thanks for the info.

1000fps is about 333 yards/sec, so since it’s slowing down, it’ll be a touch over 1 second flight time.

I can’t imagine that sewer opening being more than 3 or 4 feet. I’ll have to be happy with the 100 yard distance. Just curious, at that distance, how long does it take til the pellet hits the target???

With the .22 @1015 fps, I have just enough time to watch the pellet fly and then a short wait before impact. I’d say 1 1/2 seconds maybe. With the .25 barrel installed and the pellet only going 700 odd feet per second it is more like a 2.5s wait.

My talon drops around 96in. with an 18.1 JSB at 200m

oops ❗ I submitted twice by accident…

That is a real good point. Thus far I have been gauging all the pellets I try at 30 yards. That is the most my yard will allow me. I can stretch it out to 60 or 80, but I would have to shoot across the street. I do live on a lightly traveled culdesac (spelling?) . But I would need a spotter to let me know if it was safe to fire.

Soon I will be taking a trip to the range with all my pcp’s They have a 50, 100, and 200.

I would love to try out the two hundred yard target, but you have to shoot through a concrete sewer pipe to get to the target, and I don’t know if there will be enough opening in the pipe considering the amount of holdover I will need at that distance.

Any estimates on the drop in inches at that distance with any rifles. Condor, BSA, Dragonslayer, etc. Thanks.

Here are a couple groups using my Beeman Falcon Rs…
Seem it might just like the JSB 18.1gr better….Either one groups really
well but the 18.1gr seems to be tighter..The flyers on the
groups are probably be my fault not the pellet….These are so close it is
hard to tell…And yes I suck because I missed the friggin 9 ring and bull
32 times lol 😥

15.9gr group

18.1gr group

I shot 100yd groups with my Condor @ about 950FPS with the 18.1gr,
980FPS with 15.9gr, and 850-875???FPS with Eun Jin 28.4gr…The 15.9gr
was the
tightest @ 0.86″, Eun Jin was 2nd @ 1.079″ and the 18.1gr 2.122 sucked
out loud….I shot several groups with the 18.1gr and that was the best
one out of the bunch…The rest were scattered everywhere….It is really
hard to tell if a pellet is accurate at 30 or so yards…Once you stretch it
out it really starts to show which is working and which is not…

I guess I should also note that all of these pellets had different Elevation
and windage POI’s. I would not be able to shoot them one after the other
with out adjusting the scope..

80 I have weighed and shot the JSB 15.9 and the AA 16.0gr and I also
cross sectioned them and looked at them side by side…The AA and JSB
are both made by JSB and have the exact same weights and cross
section..They also shoot exactly the same at 65yds….The only difference
is the price….AA’s are $1.00 cheaper than JSB…I use AA now….

I thought they were identical. So far these are the most accurate in my BSA Scorpion. The larger 18.1 are the most accurate in my 24″ Condor, but don’t do well in my Scorpion. I don’t think the scorpion has enough power to get the bigger one’s spinning (although I may be wrong, all I know is they don’t group as well as the lighter ones…) Thanks.

PM sent noodles, thanks.

I-snipe,

I’ve been trying to figure out what my BSA Scorpion likes best. So Far I’ve had best results with JSB jumbos 15.9 grains, and AOA Field target 16.0. They are both super accurate, but for the life of me I can’t see any difference in the pellets. AOA claims they weigh 16.0 gr. I don’t have a digital scale to weigh them, but they look identical to the jumbos.

I tried the Jumbo Heavies which weigh 18.1 gr. and my scorpion does not group as well with these heavier pellets. I was kind of disappointed by these test results because I want it to like the heaviest pellet possible that will fit in that multi-shot magazine…. I will do some more testing (chrony, different fill pressures, etc) before I rule them out 100%.

I also want to try those JSB JUMBO monsters 25.4 gr. They look like they will fit in the BSA magazine, have you tried any heavier pellets in your super 10???

I have tried te prometheus 30gr pile driver pellet/bullet in my condor.
They are not worth the money ! They shoot terribly ! In fact i tried them at full power , medium and slow speeds and the damm things scatter like a shotgun pattern ! I doubt if ive ever sen better than 4 inch groups at 20 metres ! . I think the problem is that they are a boat tail design, which means they cannot self centre in the bore like a waisted pellet. Which basically means if they are not inserted perfectly inline with the bore they will wobble producing really bad accuracy.

Ive also tried the Dynamic brand pellet njnoodles. Although the ones i shoot are 17 gr. I have found them very accurate, and also very fast, i get around 50 FPS faster than an equivalent lead pellet. I clocked these 17gr pellets at 1260 FPS in my condor, and they grouped into 1/2 to 3/4 inch at 30 metres. But i did find they are not so good at longe range. Most pellets will not retain velocity well, but so far ive found the H&N barracuda’s at 21gr the best in terms of longe range accurate perfomance.

Back to the question … 30 Gr pile drivers.. stay away..

I-snipe,

Thanks for the information. I will give those brands a try. Cheers.
