Q:

Anyone have/had a Daystate Huntsman Or variation of?

I haven’t posted in a while.. I’ve been busy messing with the other hobbies in life. BUT.. Now the bunnies have come back in full force in my area and I’ve been shooting more than ever the past week 🙂
I’ve also been long range plinking for fun which got me thinking its time for a new gun. I currently only have two bullpups. Sold off everything else thinking all I do is hunt and I have my bases covered.. Well, I was wrong. The bullpups are ok on the bench.. But they’re no bench rest gun. I’ve always wanted to try a Huntsman but never pulled the trigger. I have to purchase every rifle I want to try sight unseen! I don’t have any friends into airgunning that live close or an airgun shop. So I solely rely on others reviews of guns. I had an AA S510 carbine, which I loved the size of, and wouldn’t mind something similar but still different- which led me to the Huntsman/Regal. I don’t have a big preference of bolt action vs lever, but I kinda like the idea of a bolt on a classic styled rifle. How do you guys like your Huntsmans? And I’m guessing it’s safe to say jsb 15.9&18.1 would be the only way to go? It’s a shame they don’t have a regulated version. I do wonder if the price of a Huma would be worth the effort? Or does that “special” valve/hammer system (Harper slingshot?) in the Huntsmans work well enough alone.

Yea I know. Air arms- Daystate- Hw100
They’re all so similar it’s a tough choice. One gun has something better than the other.
I had an AAs510 carbine.. Sold it to fund a Cricket. I want to try something new so it’s been between the Huntsman and HW. The Huntsman has its hiccups.. But the HW100 is heavyyy (owners say). I really don’t enjoy a heavy gun. The Cricket has almost been sold many times, but the amazing accuracy has saved it so far. Even with the long forend skeleton stock, the .25 Cricket is just heavy!
All I want is a 30fpe .22 that weighs in under 7lbs naked. Length is no matter since this is my plinker 30-100yds.. Not a woods walker.

If you look into it you will find that QC on modern Daystates is very hit and miss. IMO, Air Arms is a better option than Daystate for value and reliability.

I owned a Daystate Harrier in .177. Only sold it less than a year ago. I tuned it to shoot H&N Barracudas at 900 fps, and it gave me 0.50″ at 50 yards. Easy gun to live with after you quiet it down. Solid-built and not too bad on air consumption for that power (18+ fpe). Nice trigger. The Harrier came out before the Huntsman, iirc. I’d own a Huntsman over a lot of guns, except maybe the single-shot CZ200 (I had one of those too; great trigger, high accuracy, great shot count, but slightly less power)

Mr. OTE…. you are the man! :7:

Been about 5 days now and I cannot tell any drop in pressure on the gauge. I actually had some very thin silicon oil and some that was more thicker. I put a drop of the thin stuff in the fill nipple and gave it a blast… did that a couple times, then used the thicker oil and another blast.

I then filled the tank as normal and it seems to be holding.

Great tip!

Rob,

Have you tried using silicone chamber oil to fix your leak? When I fill my PCPs, I on occasion put a drop or two of silicon oil in the end of the female foster. It relubes the seals. My Edge had a slow leak and it fixed it right up.

I have not. I do it on CO2, but no…. havent thought to do do on PCP’s. I know this leak isnt at the fill end… but perhaps I can give it a quick burst when filling to see if I can throw some of that oil down lower inside the tube and hopefully at the valve. I had this same issue too, with my Air Ranger way back in the day.

Usually, the minor leaks I note are at the fill end. My Edge has done this now twice and a quick burst of air knocks whatever debris is on the foster end.

Thanks on the tip. I’m going to give that one a shot and see how goes. 😎

I can speak to the Huntsman XL.

Quality, finish, accuracy, etc… is top notch. Kinda.

I say that because the same year, I bought one, my shooting buddy bought one, and he bought one for his wife.

within one year, his wife had to return hers for warranty work. Leaking out the valve. 3 months out of warranty, mine is doing the same thing. So ‘initial’ quality is great. Longevity… maybe not so much. 2 of 3 had to be returned. Dont get me wrong, I love my XL. It’s everything I hoped it would be. I just wish it was everything for a little longer before having to send to someone to have it worked over again.

For what it’s worth, my buddy’s gun and (now) his wifes gun is top notch. Mine was before the leak.

Dude, I cannot answer your questions firsthand concerning the Daystates, however I have never, ever, ever heard anyone complain about the quality or performance of any Daystate. It is my intention to somehow get my grubby little paws on one. The performance of these air rifles are legendary. If your wallet can stand it, by all means go for it.
