Q:

Air/Tank Questions.

Holy crap! I was looking at some other airguns’ reservoirs, and wow! The Talon dominates every single one I found. I kind of knew this, but I didn’t know there was that much of a difference.

Now on to the questions…

* I’m not adjusting my tophat yet, so leave that out of the picture.

1. How much will a scuba shop fill an 80 cf tank? 3000 or 3200?

2. How much should I fill my reservoir when I want a “full” fill?

3. After I count my shots and I know I need a refill of the reservoir, how can I find out what the psi in the reservoir is? I want to know this so I can input it into this calculator – Tank Fill Calculator and know exactly when I need to refill the SCUBA tank.

Thanks.

Yep. Thanks guys. I can see why several five shot groups would be much better.

Glad you clarified that about shooting 5 shot groups instead of a whole string through one target. I just reread his post and thought he had already figured out to shoot in 5 shot groups.

jooleyen, you shouldn’t have that problem yet, being that your a youngster and all, but give it a try you might like it

You’ll notice it more quickly and it will be more helpful in general if you shoot several 5 shot groups.

If you shoot a 50 shot group, you probably wont know where the pellets are landing towards the end because of all the holes in the target. If you shoot each target 5 times you’ll see right away when the POI starts shifting.

I just get a box and put several x’s on it.

With a full tank and the pellets you are going to use, pick your distance on a target and start shooting, paying attention to your group. When you start getting erratic patterns, back up a count or two on how many shots you have fired and you will know roughly how many you can shoot before time to refill.

I find mine gets 40 consistent shots, then I know it is time to refill as they start getting erratic after about 43-44 shots.

How do you find out how many shots you can take from a fill before your POI changes? Do you just shoot a 70 shot group? Do you shoot many 5 shot groups?

Makes perfect sense YN. Thank you so much.

Depends on the dive store. It doesnt matter how large the tank is, its what its made from that counts. Any regular Aluminum/Steel diving tank will normally not be filled much above 3000psi. You see tanks marked as “+” and I think they can be filled a bit higher than 3000psi, but around 3000-3300 psi is probably a good guess… Carbon Fiber can be filled to 4500psi and fiberglass wrapped Aluminum tanks

Most guys usually get good results with 2800-2900 psi fills. If your filling your gun from a Scuba tank thats only filled to 3000 psi, then dont fill the gun to 3000psi, the lower the pressure you fill your gun to, the longer you will be able to fill to that pressure before you need to get the scuba itself refilled. You’ll get less shots filling lower, but you’ll be more consistant (ie accurate) if you know where your gun is at every time instead of just filling the tank to 3000psi the first time, then 2950, and then 2900 and lower with each fill as the scuba pressure drops.

When you fill the tank the pressure in the hose has to be brought up to the same pressure thats inside the gun so that the valve to fill it will open, the hose is small volume so it fills up quick… the needle will move relativly fast while the hose is being pressurised and then should slow down quite a bit once the valve is open and the air starts going into the much large volume gun tank. When the needle changes speed is the pressure inside your tank.
